Elliot,
I totally agree. If you compare selling these ID-plates to cars then we are talking illegal things. But I would't want to go that far.
Speaking for ourselves. Everything we recover will NEVER be sold. The only reason certain items may swap hands is because they can be useful in a important historic restoration (such as a Whitley, Stirling etc.). Even then this is not simple to accomplish because we do not want to be associated with this kind of " trade". Only pieces which are nothing more than scrap is binned, but only after having taken a very close look. For instance: displaying a piece of pipe nobody can identify and labelling it
"mainspar" doensn't make sense does it?.
The reason for my posting was that I sometimes get the feeling that if not substantial sections of an aircraft are being recovered, but just bits and pieces only an expert can identify (but are historic nevertheless), this is not being considered serious warbird-stuff on this board. Or am I wrong?
Just my two guilders worth.
Cees
