: research indicate how that name came about?

Yes - it's one of those service nicknames that's a bit rudes, so it gets bowderised in most publications (Corsair - 'bent wing -ah- bird' at airshows for the kiddies, rather than 'bastard'...) Shagbat is a mythical ancient bird that flew in ever decreasing circles until it flew up it's own fundiment... Flying Gasring was another because of the look of the exhausts in the air at night. I've also come across references recently to it being called the 'Duck' which is a new one on me; I suspect that might be wartime propoganda.

Anyway, anyone with any Walrus feedback do please get in touch here, or off the board. The more info the better!
