There is an actual "Gucci" call sign for a US Air Force squadron and an unofficial nickname for a plane. But it isn't for the C-17. It is actually for the KC-10 tanker. When I first left the might Hercules and came to the C-17, some of my buddies refered to the C-17 as a gucci jet but we were calling KC-10's that long before the C-17 was built.

C-17's have been called "Budda" in the past, because it was fat, just sit's there and does nothing but everybody worships it anyway. Operation enduring freedom has pretty much stopped that. It is still called the "moose", because of the noise that comes out of the vents when being refueled.

C-130's have been identified as "The Four Fans of Freedom", but more often it is known far and wide as "The Mighty Herc".

The C-5 is called F.R.E.D. That stands for F---ing Rediculas Economic Disaster. It is also called Linda in honor the the 1970's porn star, Linda Lovelace. That's because the plane kneals down and takes it in both ends.

C-141's were "lizards" and "tubes of pain".

B-52's are still called B.U.F.F. Stands for Big Ugly Fat F---er.

There's lots more! Nearly all jets have at one time or another been refered to as "over priced bug suckers".
