Well, here i the middle part of Sweden is the Great Lake (Storsj?n in swedish)known for another great lake monster!
I have recovered some Swedish P-51 items and other types out of this lake and they is often damaged with the wellknown patina of light-blue and powder.....as in salt water.
Especially in shallow water when the parts lay fully exposed above a solid sea bottom.
I believe that it is a combination of sunlight, salt, and other minerals that breaks the metal down...
Stopping the process i believe the only thing you can do is to rinse with fresh water as soon as possible after recovery and remove areas of detoriated metal, just like iron rust on your car....
It also depends of how much Magnesium there is in the alloy.
The more of Mg the worse corrosion.
