Got the following information from one of the CWHM volunteers, hope it answers some questions for you.
Hi guys:
" As best I know" :
The Lysander: Wings are just off to the side of the fuselage and sitting on trestles. Work being done on the wings includes the fabric covering of same. They were covered and got torn so had to be recovered. I believe the engine for the lysander is on a frame next to the fuselage. I believe we are still looking for a set of good wheel hubs for the main wheels.
Bolingbroke: The team were held up with the paperwork for the construction of the main spar. I believe the D.O.T. have reviewed the documentation and have given the team the go ahead to work on the spar construction. There has been a lot of work done on sub assemblies that is not too evident by a casual inspection. I believe the center section of the wing is in behind the work benches. The center section is probably hidden from view by the large jig that has been made to build the spar etc.
As for the Lancaster: The airframe has been inspected and we find not too much to be concerned with. We are doing some work in rebuilding the hydraulic jack for the flaps, the Oleo for the tail wheel, and some other minor work on the hydraulic system. The engine timing is being checked as a routing inspection . Mags are being checked for timing, points etc. The lubrication routine is being performed as we go along. Differential pressure check of the engines has been done and then inhibiting same for the winter storage. Some minor repairs are scheduled for the belly cowlings for the engines, Dzus fasteners etc. The tail turret is out and will be reinstalled after the mounting ring has been inspected.
Other than the annual inspection the work being done is all part of the routine for the Lanc and it's ongoing maintenance. We are expecting upwards of twenty flights in 2003
NOTE:
The information above is not an official report from C.W.H. but from a volunteer at the museum. For an official version of the extensive work on any of the museum's aircraft, enquiries will have to be routed through the museum engineering dept. and the chief engineer at C.W.H..
Hope the above information is of some consolation to you. Thanks for asking about the aircraft.
