Depends on why it didn't happen? If war was averted do to treaties then odds are that most of the famous types would still have been developed though probably to the extent seen by 1945. If war didn't happen its doubtful that the Spitfire would have made it past Mk. II or Mk. V. The need to develop wouldn't have been as pressing.

However, if war didn't happen for more theoretical reasons (Hitler didn't come to power, Nazi Germany didn't exsist) Then I have a feeling that available aircraft would probably be much lower in performance. Would the British develope the Spitfire/Hurricane if war wasn't looming? You'd probably see the 1945 air races at Cleveland poulated by P-36's, Gladiators or at best P-40A and Spitfire Mk. I's.
