Some of your points are correct Mick but I have grave reservations about how failures are managed. I think
you and I would agree that on most pilots there is the
understanding that they are flying something unique and the desire to save the aircraft at all costs . How many pilots have tried wheels down onto concrete with a failing engine
rather than everything up into a field.
LtCdr John Beattie had a similar problem with a Sea Fury many years ago and he bailed out. Ever since there are the people who want to change events - i.e a dicey landing with one gear leg down. The simple facts are that we can as is often the case rebuild or replace the aircraft in some form but the aircraft not.
Regarding the aircraft I have a friend who lost his girl friend through the failure of a part and in another case I know a guy who is in a wheelchair through the failure of a fan blade at it's root so maybe aircraft do have faults.
