By one definition or another half the warbirds out there could be considered replicas. In the case of the Me 262's there really isn't a viable alternative to replicas. There will never be a Me 262 flown in original configuration. There isn't a civil aviation authority insane enough to allow any aircraft to fly with engines that need an overhaul after 10 hours and scrapping after 25. So even the planes of fame 262 would probably fly with modern engines, probably the same set up as the replicas.
The painful truth is more and more Warbird types are getting too old or rare (parts availability) to fly. Replicas will be an integral part of airshows in the future and as long as they are not presented as real I have no problem with them or there discussion here.
The 262's might be replicas but its not going to stop me from driving rediculas distances to see one fly.
