On your second point, the Germans were unaware of the existence of the UK's early warning (EW) chain of radar stations, and it was an ultra-significant defensive aid. The EW network improved progressively throughout the war, as did UK's capability in airborne radar, this resulting in very effective night fighters (Beaufighter which was supplanted by Mosquito). IMHO, a long range German bomber probably wouldn't have been significant to WW2 outcome.
