All the affected countries are planning in the event the A400 European welfare project gets
cancelled...

Actually, the C-17 offers all these countries benefits in that offsets would see C-17 and other
military and commercial aircraft components manufactured in these same countries in exchange for
the purchase of C-17's.

The UK has already developed missions for an aircraft they felt was too large for their needs. Now
that the RAF have this larger plane, they are developing all sorts of missions they never before
contemplated.

The C-17 is a real airplane, available now. It is questionable as to whether the A400 will ever be
more than a paper study...
