PN323, the saga continued or........

not!

Well, last friday I managed to persuade my better half to go and see the IWM for the Halifax cockpit. And that's what we did.

Of course the cockpit was still closed off for the public but looking inside I could see that they had been working in it with a smell of fresh paint very apparent. The interior has now been painted in the correct shade of interior green instead of the light grey it had been in for decades. Also the perspex which prevented acess to the cockpit and flight engineers section had been temporarily removed offering an unrestricted view through the window, but I wanted more of course.

Like the previous time I had to talk with several officials from the IWM but yes, I was granted acess to the cockpit!!!

Because of delays in the refurbushing work the cockpit is still blocked but that will be only a matter of time, as I said the interior was freshly painted looking very much better now. The instrument faces of the flight engineers panel have now all been replaced with dummy ones made by photographing the originals and putting these in the instruments. The pilots instrument panel will be treated the same. The entire cockpit is very complete exept the various lines, linkages and plumbing but very busy indeed and I had a field day photographing the lot.

Judging from the reaction from the missus I must have had a sheepish smile on my face which was still there several hours later despite having walked for miles along London's busy shopping streets.

Cheers

Cees
