Aircraft Spotting in Socal...
PSP- new A6-E Intruder outside, collection always moving around (inside outside), SBD finished. G-58 parked outside today.
Banning-nothing new
Redlands-Broussard, AT-6 and Stearman in residence, Mig-15 UTI and Mig 17 outside.
Riverside- Big News, the CAF unit there has its first large aircraft, a C-53, and it is under restoration after an epic ferry flight. see.. http://www.inlandempirewingcaf.org/our_c53d_skytrooper.htm
and yes that is me. There are the other resident Riverside aircraft there. We intend to restore the C-53 to DDay configuration as accuratly as we can.
March Field Museum C-54 R5D delivered and out front, B-29 in backlot for work and TV documentary backdrop, lots of aircraft outside, all statics.
Corona, "Rose" the DC-3 avail for flights and many hidden antiques in the hangars, Arrow Sport, Travel Airs ect.
Chino, N151TF is getting closer to completion. The aircraft will be a great looking TF-51D when done, but you really have to know aircraft to see that it will be Mustang Number One when finished. Just the work going into the cockpit is certifiably MAD. There is no way to tell you how modern it will be instrumented, with a WWII look, other than to show you. Just wait...TF-51D N20TF is coming along at Fighters along with the P-39. The F4U-1 is being painted this week, so watch the museum site...Planes of Fame has a new USS Enterprise hangar for the Navy aircraft..
Just plan on several weekdays there to hang around. Its like no other place.
Santa Ana, B-25 and A-26 resident, Tiger Moth and Stearmans.
Long Beach, Catalina Flying Boats operates a fleet of Twin Beeches and DC-3's in Air France type livery. Flying in and out daily.
Torrance-T-33 out front, many hangared aircraft, but mostly GA, some antiques.
Compton-only GA, the odd antique
Camarillo, 2 connies and T-28's Mustang under resto, CAF and the like.
Van Nuys, lots of neat things but impossible to access. You just cannot get on that airport easily.
Burbank, neat stuff sometimes, but 707 or DC-8 types for MX
El Monte, Whiteman-not much of interest...
Gillespie Field San Diego and Balboa Park Aerospace museums are doing great. See the new P-26 at Balboa Park, the Trimotor, ect..They are building up a neat collection.
Anyway..I'm off to Chino tomorrow...
Joe
