Thanks very much, Dave. I see that 268 was at Turnhouse from 8-11-43 to 17-1-44: just in case late 70s/80+ yr old memories have got it wrong, I wonder if you'd mind searching back to 8-11. I have Vol 3 to hand, and can check from 1-1-44. However, in saying that the books cover operational losses only, I think that you've hit the nail on the head. I know that when it was based in southern England, 268 used its Mustangs for photo recce over the near Continent, but it's difficult to see them doing that from Scotland.
I'll give th Air-Britain serial Files a going over this weekend, and see if I can identify the accident from them.
