Drinking water problem

That is something that I personally never can and probably never will understand about the drinking water problem.
If there is an aircraft wreck in a lake somewhere that is used for drinking water they always fear the water might get polluted (OK I can understand that one). But they rather have it staying at the bottum and wait until the year ??? when corrosion has finally set in and the aircraft is falling to bits and as a result the water will be polluted anyway.
Or (and my vote is on this one) recover the aircraft while the airframe is still sufficiently strong to recover it in one piece, that way you can control the amount of pollution (if any) and everybody is happy.
Halifax W1048 (yes, again but I cannot help it because the situation is similar) was also raised from a lake that was used for drinking water. That one also worked very well so I don't see the problem (other than the political ones).
