Hi guys!

Maybe this has no bearing at all but there have been situations when gliders have been landed in lakes. If the water is too shallow, damage on the glider has been significant. It seems like most of the forward energy is converted to a downward force when it hits the water. Even at the low speed at which a glider is landed it gets sucked under quite violently.

This leads me to believe that a crash landing in shallow waters would embedd the aircraft in soft mud and destroy it when hitting harder bottom conditions.

Sand is used on race tracks to slow cars down without damaging them or the driver. Are the wrecks laying on/in sand in better condition in terms of impact damage than other wrecks? : Hi all,
