I have to say I was surprised at the overwhelming response to stop a memorial page. I can see how the stats can be used against the warbirds but the press is going to dig up dirt and exaggerate the facts with or without this page. Maybe we could actually help set the record straight. I am confused on who we would include or not include for various reasons. I also have to say that in the past I have stayed away from reporting accidents and publishing photos of accidents. I feel if I have nothing good to write than I write nothing. I thought it would be nice to put a face and human factor to these crashs. Members of this board who live around the world would be able to see and know more about the pilot who was lost.
I do think it would be nice to know more about the people who own, pilot, crew and maintain these aircraft. The history of these aircraft can be found in a number of places but where can we read and learn about the people who helped make the warbird movement. When I was a boy I met pilots like Alan Ness, Frank Tallman and Bill Ross and it would be nice read their story instead of just seeing a paragraph or two in an article now and than. I do respect the privacy of pilots but pilots also have to understand they are performers and enthusiast would like to know more about them.
It is hard to say what is right or wrong. I would just like to give proper recognition to the people who have given me so much enjoyment, by restoring and operating these aircraft where they belong, in the air.
