I surveyed all the known wrecks around Thorney Island in 1972. They included a Hudson, two Blenheims, an Anson, a Baracuda, a Beaufighter and a Meteor. Not found was a Me 109 lost in 1940 but I rather suspect this "new" wreckage will turn out to be one of the already known sites. On the island itself is a Ju 88 crash site. Also not found is a Lancaster and Wellington, both with missing crew on board, and a Beaufort - not to mention some post war prangs including a Vampire (or Venom) a Beverley and I think an Andover. It would be nice if the wreck turns out to be the missing 109, although again the pilot is not accounted for. Andy Saunders.
