Isn't the F the low production model with the conventional
cockpit profile? It's so untypical of Commandos that the
NASM really needs to think again.
No the C-46E is the low production model, and would have been a neat coup for someone. Unfortunatly the C-46E is extinct. There were 3,180 C-46 airframes produced, and 17 were E models. There were 550 contracted for, ser. 43-47403 to 47592 but most were cancelled at the end of the war. They were not used by the military and the E was only used as a civilian aircraft, postwar. They had a long and interesting service life and the last one survived until about 1972/73. All in all quite a handsome aircraft...
