Currently following the story of 3 Mk V(T)s that were taken off a Merchant ship and rebuilt the third one. They groundcrew at the local repair unit decided to rebuild one "good one" and try and fly it. Three months latter Sgt R.W. Norris {BoB vet} took her up for a test flight finding "nothing wrong with it". After a number of pilots flying it Upper Cmd found out and halted all flying of it, leaving many pilot's standing in line. It was eventually sent back to a RCAF unit in Digby - where the very unit that fixed her up in Canada was now stationed! That Spitfire was ER824 and nicknamed "Miss Torbay".
The other two Spitfires, along with a pair a P-38s were buired somewhere on the grounds of the current day airport.
Talked with the airport manager some years ago, the day he got my letter, he and his groundcrew pulled a 3-blade prop out of the ground. No news if they have found the actual dumpsite.
