Tony. I did find a shed of my own..! While we were working on Lancaster FM159, we heard a story of how there was a shed built completely out of lancaster bomber wing fuel tank access panels. Sure enough when we went down the dirt road i spotted the shed behind some bushes. We pulled up at the house and a very old frail lady came out of the door. We explained to her who we were and that we were working at the Nanton Lancaster bomber and she said feel free to look at the old barn as it is going to be torn down!!!
We ver able to convince her to give it a stay of executiong long enough for a salvage party to recover all eight large access panels. One of these was stripped and repainted as nose art from VRX Xterminator.. the famous 419 Squadron machine one of the other panels was in rough shape and this was dissected into 2 foot by 2 foot panels for use as nose art paintings. two of which we were presented with. If I knew how to post photos on here i would post them off the barn.
