There are several aircraft outside at the Proud Bird and it is on the southeast corner of the airport. (so sit on the right side of the plane at the window to see them...)
They are replica Spitfire II/V, F4U-1 Corsair, P-38, Me-109, and X-1 (perhaps the Right Stuff replica?). There also is a P-80, unknown if it is a modified T-33 or a real one. A real A-4 "Blue Angel", F-86 and Mig 15. Just about 1/2 mile north is an LA city College Aeronautical Tech school with a great T-33, and several modern aircraft. There are a couple of old Mines Field hangars that have been relocated into the city that you can see on approach, but have fallen into disuse. The DC-8, F-104 and DC-3 at the Science Museum are visible when you turn base for the 24 complex, right next to USC. Another neat sight from an LAX arrival is the closed Consolidated Vultee plant in Downey, runways still faintly visable, and idle factories...I wonder if there are any Vengence parts left in the rafters??? Or the odd V1-A fuselage up against a shed..
