Has there ever been a warbird project completed on time and on budget? :) Always seems like they take longer and cost more than expected because as you dig into them the project changes as stuff is found.
One airplane that I am having restored started out with the plan to make it a good safe flyer and ended up spread all over the hangar floor in bits and pieces. Now it will be years before its is finished, and I don't want to think about the money. While the project will be fun, it won't be flying for a long time.
If you want to fly, the best method is to buy an airplane already done, it will be cheaper and you can start having fun with it the day you buy it. That is why when I bought my T-6 I told the guys at the airport to smack me over the head if they saw me walking towards it with a screwdriver and a look of determination. Otherwise, it too would be spread all over the floor in an effort to turn a "driver" into a restored airplane. :) Cheers!
