Visited today the Vintage Fighters outfit at the Clark County Airport, Indiana.
The rear fuselage section has been mated to the center section on the FG-1D, the airplane is now sitting on its landing gear. The engine is nearby, ready for a future occasion when it will be mated to the rest of the airplane.
The workmanships is awesome, Jerry Zollman and all the other guys there are doing a really outstanding job! Michael Blackwell showed me some hydraulic lines that he spent a whole week polishing, and they look really good.
The gunsight is operational, the wings are still being worked on, and they estimate one and a half to two years to complete this projct.
I have seen many a restoration in progress, and this one is one of, if not THE, best I have seen in my life.
If you will be in the Louisville area and would like to stop by and say hello, you might want to contact them and ask for a tour; the guys are really cool, and besides, you get to see two P-51s, one T-6 and outsied, an FJ-Fury mounted on a pole.
