It was told to me by the CF liasion there that the B-23 was indeed flyable and had been kept in pretty nice shape. It was not a stock example, and had been converted to an executive configuration. I believe it was converted for use by Westinghouse execs if memory suits me right.
That from my count puts three B-23s in flying or able to come close to flying state. The former B-23 owned by World Airways (N747M) owned by Mike Bogue of Ione, CA is one... the B-23 sold above, two... and the Kermit Weeks example which needs loads of work before flying as it suffered tons of damage from Hurricane Andrew.
The PBYs were indeed modified, or in the least stripped. Two of the Cat's were reengined with R-2600's had the clipper nose mod and sold for above $100,000 a piece. The other was a more or less stock Cat with R-1830s and the boxed off nose for the turret position. None had blisters, but there were a few blister units on auction too.
No idea who bought these yet. I was told that the 1830-Catalina was sold to a Canadian party and one of the Super Cats was sold to a party in the East (US that is). As soon as there is news, I'll post it.
