Naval Museum Gets $10M Donation

PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - The National Museum of Naval Aviation received a $10
million donation Thursday from the founder of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, a
World
War II fighter pilot who says he owes his success - and his company's name
-
to the Navy.

Jack Taylor, who briefly served aboard the USS Enterprise, and his family
made the donation to help build the museum's $30 million National Flight
Academy, which will use wind tunnels, flight simulators and other gadgets
to
teach children about aviation, math and science.

The 80-year-old billionaire said his Navy experience, including strafing a
Japanese battleship, made him appreciate life and his own abilities.

``I was a callow youth when I joined the Navy, and I came out of it with
more confidence and feeling that I was going to live a happy life and do
the
right thing,'' Taylor said.

Enterprise, North America's largest auto rental company, has a fleet of
600,000 cars and 5,000 locations in five countries.

The academy is expected to open in 2006 at Pensacola Naval Air Station.
