Hi Tempest Fans,
its not a joke its really true !
3 day ago we found in a depth of about
20 feet the wreck of a Hawker Tempest.
The Condition of ths plane was bad.
Its not possible to repair it
Lot of small pieces. We found 3 of 4 Prop
blades, maingear, lot of 20mm Ammunition and tailweel. Also we found 2 identification
plates I don't know from which part of this
plane. The rest are 1000 of Aluminium
pieces and (bracings?).
The greatest found was the Engine.
A Napier Sabre IIB 24-cylinder, liquid
cooled, horizontal-H engine.
Now, we like to know more about this plane.
Maybe the pilots name. Witness told us, the
Pilot bailt out before the plane crashed.
The Crashsite is in Germany near Wesel.
If anybody can help me or if anybody
needs more information for identification,
he can send me an email: tweyer15@hotmail.com
Best regards

Re: Tempest found
Hi Beluga,
Where exactly in Germany in Wesel?
My uncle crashed into Lubeck Bay in 1948 while flying with No3 Squadron RAF. He was killed as a result of an air to ground exercise. The outcome of the official inquiry was pilot error or friendly fire. No definative
answer was given
He was killed instantly when is plane crashed into shallow water just offshore.
My information is that it appears the wreck was left in the water
I would be grateful if you would let me know.
Best regards

Hi John, I got some photos of the wreck from Thomas "Beluga" Weyer. These plus the fact that the plane crashed already in 1943 means it hardly can be a Tempest. It?s probably a Hawker Typhoon. I hope to get more photos from Beluga when the wreck is cleaned up, then we will know for sure! Regards, Christer Landberg

The date of this wreck as 1943 (where did the date come from?) is unlikely as Typhoons did not penetrate this far into Germany until late 43 and then only rarely. Can someone give a precise location?
