As an individual involved with a Spitfire Restoration that belongs to a Museum under the Department of National Defence we've been through all the problems. In Canada the goverment has come down hard ref radiation limits. Essentially they will not allow anything to be displayed that is more than double background levels. This has meant that all our military museums have been inspected and told to remove certain items that are over the limit. All of our instruments had to go into a bunker on base to keep them away from the general population since our facilities are open to the public. We are lucky that there is a company in Toronto that is licensed to clean off the radium paint although i hear the price it pretty steep. We will be sending some instrumtents there for estimates. Just for info in our area background is in the area of 5 micro severts and some of our instruments registered as high as 45micro severts. Because of this i can't trade instruments with people even though we would love to(sorry Cees). if any body is intereseted in finding out what it cost to clean our instruments email me of board and when i find out i will let you know.
