....I turn my back for 2 minutes, and I have a whole heap of WIX to wade through :)
Happy Days.
Tom was right, and the situation is getting pretty serious, so I'm liable to disappear again at a moments notice. The area we trained in is vast, not in the UK, and there were aircraft wrecks, but dating from the Seventies. The local range staff did inform me however, that there were wrecks from the "Fifties" in a closed part of the range. Closed because of the types of munitions used there :(
I never knew that WarPac forces trained for ChemWar with REAL (ableit diluted) chemweapons, and it was perfectly acceptable to lose up to 30 personnel on a peacetime exercise!
Other bits....
Excellent news Scott , you star! Really really pleased.
Karen, you must be all puffed up, and rightly so. I think it's the most wonderful news. Real shame that the Mickster wasn't around to see it, but I'm sure he would have been very pleased too.
On the subject of aero-engines, I'm due to talk with the good Dr.Dr. this week, so I'll see if anymore info can be gleaned. I believe, though I'm not sure that 2 of the engines are in fact at his facility. Also, that hole, was a small portion of the area, whether future excavations will take place remains to be seen. I'm hoping to have some piccies of an excavation in Germany to post on webshots shortly, of a FW190. (Buried complete)
Now I have to go and wade through 500+ e-mails, there may be something interesting in there, if there is, and in the spirit of Wix, I'll post it.
Nice to be back, but not looking forward to warbirding in the Persian Gulf area :(
