Hi Gareth,

I only know what was published in the article by Flugzeug Classic and what Tony posted on this board.

Apparently when the Germans retreated from the Frankfurt area in 1945 they buried a cache of 13 engines. Later the Americans built two hangars over the site. During recent work (2001) the engines were discovered and excavated. The article had some very very very interesting photo's taken during and after the recovery. Some engines (mostly 213's) were still on their transport stands or had their annular radiators (FW 190D-9?) still fitted. Although some of the parts had corroded the general condition of the engines was very good.

The museum at Gatow (this is from memory, so I am not sure about the exact museum meant) managed to acquire ten or eleven of the engines and the other two went somewhere else. Tony also knows a lot about this matter (where is he by the way)

I will scan some of the photo's this evening and post them, as well as a general translation of the article.

Can someone tell me how to post photo's on this board?

Cees
