I hadn't really thought about the need for a structural redesign, but it makes sense. Takes the wind out of my sails a bit though!
But I think your comments about modern wood products are quite correct. Glues and finishes have changed considerably in the last 60 years and I think you are quite right in suggesting that a Mossie made of modern materials would be easier to maintain than an original.
Now we just have to get someone to build a few to airworthy status!!
