It?s correct that a Mosquito is on the wanted list for the Swedish Air Force Museum.
There has been an american individual, let?s call him Mr.X, involved who was to build a replica fuselage (wooden) and fix the wing but, it wasn?t Mike Meeker.
Mr.X was to receive two ex - Swedish Air Force J35 Draken to operate in the US, flying at airshows. The revenue should support the Mosquito project. One J35 was shipped to the US and was flown there. The other was prevented from leaving Sweden by the authorities. Soon the first one was out of service due to a mechanical problem and no revenue came in. The Mosquito project was stopped.
In the meantime Mr.X experienced financial difficulties and among other things the Swedish Mosquito project was impounded.
The project consists of 75 % of a wing and engines. In addition to that, large quantities of details recovered from a crash site in northern Sweden.
Rather than going the expensive legal way the SAFM decided to make a deal and simply buy back what they already owned!
In July this year all the small items, such as the engines and all the bits and pieces from the crash site, was returned to Sweden. The wing is too large for air transportation, at least within economical reason, so it will probably be shipped back by boat.
Everything is gathered in V?ster?s and it?s hoped that a team of volunteers will do the brunt of the job as was done with a few other projects, among others the S31 (Swedish designation for Spitfire PR Mk 19).
Some of You might know who Mr.X is but, due to the above circumstances I decided to not reveal his name.
