I'll always opt for the authenticity regarding nose art. Such art accurately reflects the feelings, hopes and thoughts of many of the young men in the air forces during that time. My father went overseas to serve in the RCAF 6 Group,Bomber Command, and managed to come home again. His reflections on those times made it clear that many of his companions didn't really expect to survive to the end of a tour. Visit any of the commonwealth war grave sites to see what I mean. The nose art on some of the aircraft and the antics of the crews off duty reflected this. If the artwork or "politically incorrect" sentiments expressed in aircraft noseart offends some people, they have a right to express their opinions, but they have no right to force others to bend to their views. Afterall, wasn't that what many of these young men died to preserve?
