: Hi Charles
The ultimate aim of salvaging is retrieving the bodies of Flight Sergeants J. White and J.E.A. Thibaudeau, whose bodies were not recovered after the aircraft?s crash in the early hours of May 5th, 1943 near the village of Wilnis.
Both the wireless operator Sgt. H.H. Hoddinott and Sgt. G.C. Carter, navigator managed to bail out of the burning bomber to be taken POW by the Germans. The plane?s pilot, Warrant Officer R.B. Moulton was killed during the crash. The remains found of W/O Moulton were officially buried at Wilnis Cemetery.
