Hi Paul,
I'm happy to confirm that this is a real P-40, not a scaled repro. and the owner, John Fallis is every bit a part of the P-40 community. I met John at Oshkosh in 1997 at which time he was just getting started and didn't have too many contacts active in the P-40 restoration scene. I was pleased to be able to introduce him to most of the active rebuilders in this part of the world and he has since been to Aust/NZ several times.
John's aircraft was another of the 1974 Tallichet recoveries. It ended up as a static exhibit in a partially covered display not too far from where John lives (Louisianna). Since then he and his 'sheetie' (Bill?) have made great progress. The fuselage structural rebuild was completed some time back and the first wing has now also been finished with the second underway. It is joked in P-40 circles that you haven't made a serious start until you have completed at least one wing, since that's where all the work is. This is fairly true and I'm afraid I fall well short of qualifying! All in good time I guess.
Cheers for now,
Graham
