Hi all,
Today the WIX went internationally operational, meaning that Elliott was present today when we continued our investigation into the crash of Whitley N1521, which crashed into a shallow lake on January 15th 1941.
Although the results of the investigation were dissapointing, we did manage to find some parts of the aircraft including a large part of the DF-loop fairing, some structural bits and pieces and a large piece of Perspex. Apart from these we also found the sole of a shoe, we have to find out if this could be from a flying boot.
Over the past few years an enormous amount of interesting parts have already been recovered and are now on show in our museum.
Elliott didn't leave emptyhanded though as he took away the aileron controls which was recovered some years earlier and which will be used by Elliott for the Whitley rebuild.
It was an enjoyable day with occasional sunshine ( a few showers as well and reasonably warm water)
Cheers
Cees
