I remember a tour guide at the National Aviation Museum here in Ottawa told me then when one of their Komets (now in Dayton Ohio) was disassembled for restoration small stones were found wedged between the fuel tanks and the surrounding structure. As I understand it the forced labour, used by the Germans to assemble the Komets, was doing their part in the war effort to ensure the aircraft would be ineffective. It is doubtful that airframe ever flew as it would likely have been destroyed on the take-off run.

Mike
