Have been very interested in all of the speculation as to the identity of this aeroplane but am having difficulty accepting the quoted Werke Nummer! I imagine that somebody has just gone with the "Black 6" on the fuselage and made a speculative link to a W.Nr that matched? On the rear fuselage is painted Fligerschule Diepholz, and I cannot imagine that a 109-E would have gone from a training unit to a front line unit - particularly during 1940! More like the other way around. Also, I happen to have the ORIGINAL 49 MU Salvage Report on Xavier Ray's (did his parents have a sense of humour??) Me 109 and what happened to that airframe does not sit with it now being in India! Is it case of putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 4034? I think we all need to wait until it is back home before we know the truth. Andy Saunders.
