Don't make it look airworthy upon close inspection if it isn't...

Cases in point:

F-86 with cut spar was ferried to a new location. Upon disassembly it was discovered that the spar had been demilled (spar cap cut), but someone had coated it with body filler, sanded it smooth, and then painted it for display.

A display Stearman had been made airworthy, and upon inspection later, cracks in the tubing were discovered. Upon further investigation it was determined that most of the fuselage had been made from electrical conduit and was intended for display purposes only.

None of this is an excuse for poor workmanship, but if you make a Fw-190 wing using screen door extrusions for the spar caps, 75 years from now when you are long dead and the details of your reconstruction are lost- someone might actually try to fly it!
