Tony,

The last thing I know is that several years ago a consortium had gained permissing from the Danish gouverment to start a project to recover one or more of the P-38's. So far nothing has been heard ever since (unless someone knows more).

The B-17's were crushed almost beyond recognition by the ice although some parts were recovered. The book I have about the expedition shows one of the B-17's with the roof squashed through the pilot seats, the seats literally sitting on top of the roof.
