September 13 2002 at 11am a memorial will be unveiled to two airmen, Sqn Ldr RS Woodward DFC, W/o D B McPhail RCAF at Noirmont Point Jersey. This point overlooks the exact point where both men were lost 60 years ago on December 7 1942, during a Whirlwind attack on a German Convoy sailing between Jersey and Guernsey.
The service will be attended by Sqn Ldr Woodwards wife and family, several high ranking RAF officers and the Canadian Air Attache. The BBMF will perform a flypast and P/O John Gillespie Magee's poem "Highflight" will be read by Tania Szabo the daughter of the SOE agent Violette Szabo.
If anyone would like further information drop me a line and I will happily supply it.
Kind regards from horrible grey summers day in Jersey
