Hello Elliott
More likely somebody just removed the data plates as an easy way out of recovery, possibly misguided in the belief that they are the principal source of value. For my money If I've got the Spitfire and you just happen to have the data plate from my Spitfire, I have the project and provenance. I can make a new data plate but can you make a new Spitfire?
