Data plate restorations always have amused me. It seems funny that they reunite a pilot/groundcrew with his old plane when the only thing that was on the aircraft at the same time they first met was the data plate! Takes all sorts.
The Hurricane world is just playing catch up with the Spit world (about 15 years ago) when a plate could fetch up to ?10k (IMMSMC)...bizarre. For interest, the Hurricane only had the serial number applied by the factory in 3 proper places (fuselage markings, port side of the dog house under the fabric and a 1.5 by 1 inch brass plate attached to the port Joint C above the fuel selector). So selling a provenance from a true wreck would be just the brass plate.
I would never say that I would never part with a plate....I would be mercenary about it if it could further my Hurricane project....though I would not be too happy about it!!
regards
Tony
