I'm currently on the hunt for that article, it was entitled "yorkaster" and was in Flypast or Aeroplane in the last few years, if anybody else can help find it.
I've remembered something else from that article, which is even more controversial! It wasn't just the outer wings that were replaced, it was the whole lot, including engines!
I can even remember a quote (maybe not word for word though), here goes: "the only difference between the Lancaster and York wings was that the York's engines were not war-rated (whatever that means) but as the Lancaster was not about to go to war, it didn't matter".
