Well someone pointed out that a P-51H aircraft is detailed in Wreckchasing by Nicholas Veronico and as I have raided my book storage today (hunting Indian Rumours!) I decided to look it up:
The aircraft in the book is actually a TF-51H (Serial 44-64697) which crashed in December 1951 in Arizona. The Pilot who was killed in the crash was Lt. Robert G. Westlund. However the book says the wreckage recovered in 1991 not 1961 so they may not be the same aircraft? or could be a typo or something else..
The book says Wings OK and their is a picture of the aircraft in USAF service as well it was coded TF-697
