I suspected that it was more complicated than my simple solution may have indicated!

Sea Furies baffled the Yanks for quite some time in civilian use until we figured out that you could re-tap many Whitworth threads to suit modern inch screw threads. The Whitworth threads were the same pitch, just a different thread shape which the inch standard tap neatly removed.

Maybe you can re-tap the housings in question to suit modern (more fireproof) hoses? It isn't original nor irreversable, but it would be far safer in this day and age. I'm all for improvements in the name of safety, althougfh I'm not sure what the ramifications would be with the UK airworthiness authorities...
