I thinkt it's the opposite. Because the unwanted aircraft get scrapped much sooner the wanted ones remain. Look at the P-47 and Typhoon for instance. Very soon after the war they were quickly scrapped leaving relatively few left the more so for the Typhoon.

Why are there no Hampdens (at least until some years ago), Whitleys (Elliott is working on that), Barracuda's etc left.
Also because a certain aircraft is more popular the more effort is spent in rebuilding them. If people were extremely interested in say the Whitley then at least several examples had existed by now instead of Elliott having to do this himself.
