If you look up close at a Sea Fury you will notice that the fuselage is narrower than the cowling. The exhaust area tapers to transition the cowling to the fuselage.
Naturally a new cowling would be required, but it would be easier to build because you wouldn't necessarily need to follow any drawings like you would be expected to with a straight on restoration.
I asked this same question about a Sea Fury mod a few months back and got my head bitten off... But it seems to make as much sense to me as installing a 3350.
