I had the same experience trying to get pictures at the air park at Pope AFB in NC last December. I think I did very well just to get to the 82nd Airborne Museum in Ft. Bragg. Unless something changes, I won't be in a hurry to travel to the AFBs for photo ops.

FYI... I would think that air park at Grissom AFB would be accessable. If I remember correctly the entrance to the airpark is just outside the main gate.
