The Air Police has no way to know that you are one of the good guys; for all they know, you are scouting their layout for any purposes.
I know, because I have been in your same situation, a few times since September 11. I have discovered that if I go to the Guard Shack, and politely ask for permission, some times they will grant it, some times they won't. I thank them any way, and if they let me take the pictures, I make sure that I will stay within their view, and not to do anything that could be misconstrued as being hostile or dangerous.
Other thing that helps, is to call in advance, the Public Relations Office for that particular installation, or better yet, to write them a note. Explain why you want to shoot your pictures. I hope you will be able to keep with your photo shooting. If not, there is always someone out there, who already has shot pictures of the airplanes you want, and might be interested in swapping or trading them for something you might have.
Best of luck,
Tulio
