In reply top Typhoon found in Holland....... posted by Tony on Mon Jul 08, 2002 03:35:04 PM

.....which I received yesterday evening from the person involved with the digging, after Tony put me in contact with him, thanks Tony.

Apparently nothing substantial was found because most of the wreckage was cleared away shortly after the crash. The largest parts found were three wingpanels originating from the upper wingsurface near the cannon bays (could be the bay doors itself) as well as some smaller parts from the cockpit.

The person involved is working to put up a display in september to commemorate Operation Market Garden. He is also investigating the crashsite of a Messerschmit which also came down in the area.

The identity of the Typhoon isn't known yet (if you ask me, that's the first thing you investigate before even start digging). I have put him in touch with one of our collegue recoverygroups active in the area. Possibly they could help him establishing the identity of the aircraft.

That's it for now.
